RESTORED BUILDINGS OPEN TO PUBLIC
Following an impressive work of restoration, it is now possible to visit the House of the Wounded Bear, the House of Sirico and the Bakery of Popidio at the ruins of Pompeii. The first building owes its name to the bear wounded by a beam that rules the mosaic placed in the access corridor. Once at the back of the domus, visitors will be able to admire a garden and a fountain the bottom of which reveal portraits of god Neptune and goddess Venus, lying on a shell.
Frescos representing heroes or gods of Greek mythology also enrich the esedra - living room with seating - of the house of Sirico, a prominent figure of ancient Pompeii, who was usually here to receive his customers with whom he so fondly liked to banquet. The domicile triclinio, on the other hand, houses the bodies of three victims overwhelmed by the burning clouds that the Vesuvius evoked.
The Bakery of Popidio, on the other hand, was one of the most successful commercial activities of the vesuvian city. By looking closely at the bakery ovens, it is impossible not to see the resemblance with modern wood-burning ovens, thus witnessing a stainless bond with the past.
